"I'm a very serious person, I even look
serious and non assuming. 15 years ago I worked
in banking with a lot of nosy coworkers. One day
I told one of my coworkers that it was my
ex husband's birthday and I needed to pick
him up a card at lunch. She went with me to
purchase the card and she wanted to read it
before I sent it out. I wrote a little simple
verse to Dave and told her to keep it a secret.
Dave who? I told her it was David Letterman.
That we had been married for a very short time
(a week) and New York wasn't for me!
Don't tell anyone 'cuz I
don't want people confusing me with that
nut that keeps breaking into his house. He has
enough problems! Please don't tell anyone
else in the office.
Her eyes bulged out. I could tell she believed
me. It was within 3 days the whole office
believed I had been married to David Letterman
and they all whispered about it. I never
corrected anyone, since they'd hint about
it to see if I'd talk about it. I Loved
It."
